Aims:

To provide practical experience of effective ballet teaching strategies for a group of mixed ability older learners.

Learning Outcomes:

On completion of the workshop you will have:

  • an understanding of Silver Swans® and the responsibilities and expectations of license holders
  • an awareness of a range of ballet teaching strategies and the benefits of these strategies in relation to the Silver Swans®
  •  a greater understanding of how to safely modify and deliver ballet repertoire for older learners
  •  knowledge and understanding of appropriate progression, differentiation and integration considerations for adults of mixed ability

You are encouraged to browse through the materials before attending the workshop, however, you do not necessarily need to read and watch them all before attending.

 

Silver Swans® Licence

Participation in Silver Swans® Workshops is open to experienced ballet teachers wishing to find out more about approaches to teaching ballet to older learners, with a view of becoming a Silver Swans® Licensee. On completion of the workshop, RAD Registered Teachers will be automatically granted the Silver Swans® licence. All other participants will be considered. Confirmation of eligibility for a licence will be based on the observations of the Silver Swans® tutor delivering the session. The tutor will observe the participant’s secure demonstration of ballet teaching, as detailed in the list of competencies on our website.

Participants who are deemed eligible for the licence will be notified by our Membership department within 30 days following the workshop.

 

Silver Swans® Licence Fee

Silver Swans® Licensees are required to renew their licence annually, no later than the renewal date, to remain a Silver Swans® Licensee.

You will be invoiced by our Membership team within 30 days of completing the Silver Swans®Workshop for the cost of the annual licence fee as follows:

  • RAD Registered Teachers receive a 100% discount on the licence fee, and will therefore pay no fee for the year.
  • RAD Teacher, RAD Member Plus and RAD Members receive a 50% discount on the licence fee and will be invoiced £62 for the year.
  • Non-Members pay the full licence fee and will be invoiced £124 for the year.

Tutor:

Ms Rivkah Nathan

RAD Examiner, Registered Teacher, CBTS and CPD Tutor, M.mus, Artistic Director, Choreographer and Dance Therapist

Rivkah Nathan is an accomplished dancer, educator, and artistic director with extensive experience in the field of dance. Her teaching career began in 1984 and in 1990 she became a certified teacher for the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD).

In 2011 she became a tutor for the RAD, introducing Grades 1-3 to the RAD teachers in Israel, following  several CBTS403 courses , as well as a tutor for Creating Effective and Imaginative Free Enchaînement, and Silver Swans®. Since 2017, Ms. Nathan is serving as an examiner for the RAD, utilizing her expertise to assess and evaluate dance students.

Ms. Nathan holds a combined Master’s degree in Dance and theatre, from a joint program that was offered by The Hebrew University, Jerusalem, and The Jerusalem Academy of Music & Dance, which she completed between 2006 and 2008, she is a certified dance therapist from Haifa University, having completed her training in 1998-2000.

Throughout her career, Ms. Nathan has placed a strong emphasis on continuous professional development. She participated in courses offered by the RAD, observed classes and  participated in discussions with colleagues from The Royal Swedish Ballet School, The Hamburg ballet school, École supérieure de ballet du Québec, as well as regularly attended summer teacher seminars at the National Ballet School, Canada, from 1992 to 2016, actively expanding her knowledge and skills. In addition to her teaching endeavours, she has gained valuable experience in choreography and performance. She has participated in choreography competitions, performed with The Rubin Academy of Music and Dance Ensemble, and engaged in Yiddish theatre in Montreal, Canada.

With over 40 years of experience in teaching and choreography, Ms. Nathan has made significant contributions to the dance community. She has shared her expertise at various studios, schools, and seminars in Israel, Canada, India, and Greece. Furthermore, she has demonstrated exceptional organizational abilities as a stage manager and producer over the course of three decades.

Rivkah Nathan’s distinguished career in dance showcases her unwavering dedication to the art form, her commitment to education, and her fervent support for nurturing talent and fostering creativity in others.
