Focus On Variations: Intermediate CPD Course (HK)
A one-day practical course in which participating teachers will gain a detailed understanding of the steps and movements of each of the Variations at Intermediate level (both male and female). Learning activities will focus on the development of correct technique through the progression of vocabulary, differences in music and style for each variation. The course will also provide the opportunity to discuss the related examination assessment criteria and exercises for the development of correct technique.

Aims:
The aim of this one-day practical course is to boost participants’ confidence in teaching the variations for the Intermediate syllabus variations through enhancing their knowledge and understanding of technique, style and musicality.
Learning Outcomes:
Participants will be able to:
- demonstrate, physically and/or through explanation, an understanding of the technique and movement quality in each variation
- demonstrate, physically and/or through explanation, an understanding of the correct style and performance elements for each variation
- discuss musical interpretation
Participants will have knowledge and understanding of:
- approaches to help their learners develop expressive and confident performance
- the relationship between elements of technique, style, musicality and overall performance outlined above
- the assessment criteria for Examinations (female and male)

Recommended Preparation:
Teachers should familiarise themselves with the variations through the word notes, Benesh Movement Notation (BMN), DVDs and music.
Study the vocabulary in the variations and refer to the Foundations and Progressions of Classical Ballet publication to ensure that teachers have an understanding on how the movements and steps should be executed

Vivian started her ballet training under her father, Stephen Kwok as a toddler. In 1977, she went to England to further her study in dance at the Royal Academy of Dance, where she was trained as a teacher in ballet, national dance, modern dance and ballroom. She was awarded the Licentiate and Associate in ballet of Royal Academy of Dance, Licentiate in national dance and Associate in modern dance and ballroom of Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing. Vivian also attained numerous Choreography Awards in modern dance section in the Hong Kong Schools Dance Festival for the production of Dragon Boat Race (2000), If I Were A Tree (2002) and If You Can Change My Life (2003).
Vivian is an adjudicator for the Hong Kong Schools Dance Festival, an examiner of the Hong Kong Arts Development Council, an external examiner of the Hong Kong University SPACE, a subject specialist of the HKCAAVQ and an examiner of the Royal Academy of Dance. Vivian was also trained at the Trinity College of Music (London) for piano performance. In 1990, she was the champion of the Open Section in the Hong Kong Yamaha Election Festival and represented Hong Kong in international competitions.
Vivian holds a Bachelors degree in Applied Computing and a Master Degree in Education. Vivian believes that Dance Education, which helps to stimulate self-expression and increase one’s observation power, is essential for our new generation. Her School adopts a learner-oriented approach for realisation of all-rounded personal development in its students. It aims to develop students’ creativity and to enhance their self-confidence through continuous participation in public performances.
